The United Methodist Church (UMC) opens hearts, opens minds, and opens doors through active engagement with our world. It embraces liturgical worship, holiness, and evangelical elements.
The UMC is a worldwide mainline Protestant denomination based in the United States, and a major part of Methodism.
The UMC can trace its roots back to the revival movement of John and Charles Wesley within the Church of England, as well as the Great Awakening in the United States.
In the 19th century, its main predecessor, the Methodist Episcopal Church, was a leader in evangelicalism. The present denomination was founded in 1968 in Dallas, Texas, by union of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.
As such, like all United Methodist Churches, Fairfield’s theological orientation is decidedly Wesleyan. We embrace traditional elements in worship and in our ministry life together.
The UMC’s mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by sharing the Good News of God's love shown to us in Jesus Christ, who is the Savior of the world, in our words and actions.
