Our Founding

The following was first compiled by C. H. Saddoris and read at the Fairfield 50th Anniversary Memorial Service on September 28, 1924. The history was printed in the Moline Daily Dispatch dated October 2, 1924

First Meeting Held

The records show that the first meeting of citizens for the purpose of promoting erection of the church was held on Jan. 27, 1874. Jacob Flickinger called the meeting to order.

Henry Torpin was elected Chairman and Jacob Flickinger was made Secretary.

Henry Saddoris and others spoke in favor of the proposition and a motion to build was carried at the first meeting.

The committee for subscriptions included William McRoberts, Henry Torpin, William Reynolds, and James Simpson.

On May 12, 1874, the decision was adopted to build the church to be knopwn as Fairfield Methodist Episcopal Church
